What is Live Earth 2020?
The vision for Live Earth 2020 is to pay tribute to Earth with any form of art and ceremony all over the world at the same time. The crowd for each performance literally is the sand, the river, the mountains, the forest, the birds, spirit or the ocean. In a time where seemingly more and more people see the need for systemic change in our relationship with each other and Earth, we stand still, listen to the Earth and perform or hold ceremony as a response to what is being told.
When is Live Earth 2020?
August 29th and 30th. Most performances and ceremonies concentrate on the 29th of August. It is free for the artist, ensemble, or community to decide to perform on the 30th. The second day is mainly there so nobody has to pass for reasons of no availability. This concert for Earth will last 48 hours.
Are artists physically playing and dancing together?
Yes, but only for the official opening of the concert. In the collective kick-off, through an online connection, everyone will perform the same piece of art at the same time. This needs no preparation. After the opening ceremony everyone can continue his/her own performance or ceremony.
Is there an opening ceremony?
There is collective kick-off of the concert, through an online connection, with a piece of art that we'll all perform together (4'33 by John Cage). This is followed by a ceremony after which everyone can continue his/her own performance or ceremony offline. It's free to decide to do or do not take part in the opening ceremony online.
What time is the opening ceremony?
The opening ceremony is going to be live-streamed through Zoom and will take place from 3:30 - 4pm CEST (Amsterdam). Joining the ceremony is not obligatory since it might be too late or too early or otherwise inconvenient. In the opening ceremony we will altogether perform the composition 4'33 by John Cage. After that, we will kick-off LIVE EARTH 2020 with a small traditional ceremony. During the opening ceremony, interaction online is kept to a minimum. After the opening ceremony, everyone can proceed to their own performance for Earth. If you wish you can keep hanging around in the Zoom, but remember: we are performing for Earth and not for each other.
